Commercial flooring repair

Commercial flooring fails where water and traffic meet: kitchen floors, entrances, restrooms and behind wash stations. Work covers replacing damaged tile, vinyl and sheet goods, repairing subfloor damage after a leak, resealing and regrouting, coving and transitions, and the slip-resistant finishes a commercial kitchen needs. A lifting tile in a customer area is a liability claim waiting to happen, which is why it belongs on the urgent list rather than the tidy-up list.

What commercial flooring repair costs

Most of these jobs land near $900. The full spread runs $300 to $12,000, and the gap between those two ends is diagnosis against replacement rather than one business being dearer than another.

What moves it: how much of the job is parts, whether the fault is found in the first hour or the third, access to the equipment, and the hour of the day you call. We never speak to the businesses listed here, so there is no rate card behind any of this. It is our own band for the category, and there is no regional index: the figure does not change with your metro.

Who is licensed to do this work

In California the classification that squarely covers this is C-15 flooring and floor covering or C-54 ceramic and mosaic tile, and the register says who holds it. Every listing on this site shows the classification, the license number and the date we read it, with a link back to the register entry so you can check it against the state rather than against us.

Overlapping classifications exist and are labeled as overlapping rather than as a match: B general building. A general building contractor may hold the job and subcontract the trade, which is a real answer and a different one, so the card says which of the two you are looking at.

One thing worth being plain about: CSLB classifications do not distinguish commercial work from residential. There is no separate commercial license to hold and no register field that would prove one. That is why this page describes the equipment rather than the contractor, and why nothing here says a business has been checked out. We read a public record on a stated date. That is the whole claim.

Before you pay for a callout

Two minutes of checks that sometimes end the problem

We would rather you did not need a callout at all. These are the checks that end the most calls for this fault.

Try a quick fix first

Some issues resolve without a truck roll. Two minutes now can save the callout.

  1. 1

Cone or tape a trip hazard immediately and photograph it. If someone falls before the repair, that photograph and the date you reported it is what protects you.

  2. 2

Work out where the water came from before replacing anything. Flooring laid over a subfloor that is still wet lifts again within months.

  3. 3

Measure the area rather than describing it. Flooring is priced per square foot and a measurement gets you a comparable number from everyone.

  4. 4

In a food premises, ask specifically for a coved detail at the wall. Health inspectors look at the junction between floor and wall, not the middle of the floor.

What the visit actually includes

  • Removal and disposal of the damaged section
  • Subfloor inspection, drying and repair
  • New material laid and sealed to match
  • Coving, transitions and edge trims
  • Cure and return-to-service time stated up front

Diagnosis

How flooring faults usually present

Written from how these faults actually present on a working premises, not from a manual.

Pattern 1

Tiles lift in the same corner every time

Moisture coming up through the slab or a leak nobody found. The floor is the symptom, and relaying it without fixing the water buys about six months.

Pattern 2

Kitchen floor is slippery when it is clean

The wrong finish for a wet kitchen, or a sealer that filled the texture. Both are fixable and both are a slip claim waiting to be filed.

Commercial flooring repair near you

Local pages show which businesses are listed for that metro, how far out they sit, and the local conditions that drive demand.

Counted from the businesses we have imported for each metro center inside a 25 mile radius, and counting only those whose own license classification names this trade. General contractors licensed widely enough to take it on and subcontract it are excluded here, and still appear in a search. A metro reads “none yet” until we load a register that covers this trade there.

Flooring FAQs

Short, specific answers. If yours is not here, ask the business you call before you agree to the visit.

Find local trades
How long before we can walk on it?
It depends entirely on the material. Adhesives, grouts and epoxies all have different cure times, and a resin floor can need a full day or more before service. Get the return-to-service time in writing so you can plan closing.
Can it be done overnight?
Small areas often, whole floors rarely, because of cure time. Most commercial flooring in a trading business is done over a closure rather than between services.
What license covers this?
C-15 flooring and floor covering in California, or C-54 for ceramic and mosaic tile. A B General Building contractor genuinely performs this work too, so B appears here as a partial match rather than a specialist one.
