Pest control

In a food premises pest control is a compliance obligation with a paper trail, and a sighting during an inspection is a closure risk. Work covers rodent and insect treatment, monitoring stations and logs, exclusion work sealing the routes pests use, drain and dumpster hygiene advice, and the service report an inspector expects to see on file. Treatment without exclusion is a subscription: the pests come back through the gap nobody sealed.

What pest control costs

Most of these jobs land near $400. The full spread runs $150 to $3,000, and the gap between those two ends is diagnosis against replacement rather than one business being dearer than another.

What moves it: how much of the job is parts, whether the fault is found in the first hour or the third, access to the equipment, and the hour of the day you call. We never speak to the businesses listed here, so there is no rate card behind any of this. It is our own band for the category, and there is no regional index: the figure does not change with your metro.

Who is licensed to do this work

No California classification covers this work, which is the honest answer rather than a gap in our data. The state licenses the supply behind a machine, the gas line, the exhaust duct, the refrigeration circuit and the electrical feed, and it does not license the machine. So there is no register row to read and no license number to print, and a page that offered you a plumber for it would be inventing the match.

If it is down right now

Everything below is about our mechanism. We hold no hours for any business on this site, have never contacted one, and cannot tell you who is awake, so none of this is a promise that somebody answers.

  • Enter the ZIP of your premises. We measure from that ZIP to the address each business filed with its licensing authority and keep everything inside 25 miles.
  • The order is distance, nearest first. Nobody buys a position in it and there is nothing here to sell.
  • If fewer than three businesses clear the filters, the ring steps out toward 75 miles and the page tells you it widened. The distances you then see are the real ones.
  • Each listing carries the phone number the register publishes. You call it yourself. We have no phone line, take no fee and pass nothing on.
  • Our band for an emergency callout is the category band multiplied by 1.35. That multiplier is ours and describes our estimate, not a rate anybody has quoted.

Before you pay for a callout

Two minutes of checks that sometimes end the problem

We would rather you did not need a callout at all. These are the checks that end the most calls for this fault.

Try a quick fix first

Some issues resolve without a truck roll. Two minutes now can save the callout.

  1. 1

Ask for exclusion work, not just treatment. Sealing the gaps around pipe penetrations, door sweeps and the space under a roll-up door is what actually stops it recurring.

  2. 2

Keep the service reports on file where you can produce them. In a food premises the report is what an inspector asks for, and having none reads worse than having a problem.

  3. 3

Check the dumpster area and the drains first. Most kitchen pest problems are fed from outside, and the treatment inside is treating a symptom.

  4. 4

Note exactly what you have seen and where. Droppings, live sightings and gnaw damage each point at a different treatment.

What the visit actually includes

  • Inspection of the premises with the entry routes identified
  • Treatment appropriate to the pest and to a food environment
  • Monitoring stations placed and mapped
  • Exclusion recommendations, and the work itself where it is in scope
  • Written service report for your compliance file

Diagnosis

How pest control faults usually present

Written from how these faults actually present on a working premises, not from a manual.

Pattern 1

Treated repeatedly, problem returns every month

The entry route was never closed. Treatment kills what is inside and exclusion is what stops the next ones, so a plan without proofing is a recurring bill.

Pattern 2

Flies at the back door in summer

Dumpster proximity and a door propped open for ventilation. Fixing the airflow so the door can stay shut solves more of this than any spray.

Questions owners ask

Pest control FAQs

Short, specific answers. If yours is not here, ask the business you call before you agree to the visit.

Find local trades
Why does this search return nothing?
California does license pest control, but through the Structural Pest Control Board rather than the contractor register this site imports, so we have no licensed businesses to show you here. That board publishes a license lookup, and checking a company against it before you hire is worth the two minutes.
How often should a food premises be serviced?
Monthly is the common commercial interval, more often while a problem is active. What matters to an inspector is a regular schedule and a documented record, not the specific number.
Can I do it myself?
Consumer products in a food premises create their own compliance problem, and an inspector who finds them will have views. Professional treatment with a report is the defensible route.
